Dear Disciple: Satisfied

Dear Disciple,

“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” Psalm 90:14

Today I want draw your mind to this beautiful statement quoted above.  May this new day begin for you with the awareness of God’s unfailing love toward you.  As Moses prayed in Psalm 90, so you can pray today.  If your Father satisfies you at the beginning of your day with His unfailing love, then your whole day can have the joy and gladness of your Shepherd-King.

I wonder if Moses had in mind the daily manna that God provided for Israel every morning?  Did he see that peculiar bread that appeared on the ground day in and day out as a sign of God’s unfailing love to the people of Israel?  To him, if the people ate of that bread in the morning, then they could live the rest of that day in the confidence that God would not fail to meet whatever other needs they might have.  In that confidence, they could have joy and gladness.

Do you have a daily signal of God’s unfailing love in your life, Disciple?  Is there something to which you can look as a reminder that God is never going to fail you and that His love will always be full towards you?  For some, it might be your first waking thoughts – the realization that He’s given you another day of life.  For others it might be breakfast – God’s provision of nourishment in the new day.  Perhaps it’s the greeting your child gives you when you first see him/her.  Whatever it is, I urge you to keep that in your mind as you speak the words from Psalm 90:14 as a prayer today.

The wording here is important, isn’t it?  Notice the description of God’s love.  His love is unfailing.  Like the sons of Korah, meditate today on His unfailing love (Psalm 48:9).  Consider all the ways in which He has been faithful to meet your needs over the years.  Rehearse the times you weren’t sure how He would rescue you but then He did.  As you meditate on His love that has never failed (and never will), may you sing for joy and be glad today.  Then tomorrow.  Then all your days to come!

Grateful for our Father’s unfailing love with you,

Ryan
